Accessibility

Please call us at 919.834.4001 or email info@burningcoal.org with your unique accessibility needs. We are happy to welcome you to our theatre.

If you would like to request front row or aisle seating, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance so it can be reserved for your arrival.

If you are interested in an open captioned, signed, or audio described performance, please call us with at least 2 weeks of advance notice at 919.834.4001 and we will do our best to provide this service.  We do have available digital scripts in advance if you’d like to read one ahead of your arrival.

Audio described programs are available 1 week before opening on the individual show’s webpage and our Into The Fire podcast page.

Adjusting Our Website:

Our website utilizes an accessibility interface. It is a white human-shaped icon in the upper left corner of this page and all pages on our site. Simply click to adjust our site’s settings to aid use and enjoyment for a wide range of populations.

Our goal is to be accessible in all ways for all people. If there is something we could be doing better, please let us know: info@burningcoal.org

Burning Coal’s primary theatre space is at the Murphey School Auditorium, 224 Polk St. Raleigh, NC 27604. For accessibility details of off-site performance locations, please see the specific show’s webpage, or call us at (919) 834-4001 or email info@burningcoal.org.

Parking & Entrance:

There are curb cuts to the sidewalk next to our building and a shallow-incline ramp up to the wide front door.

There is a parking lot right next to the theatre which is free during most performance times (weekdays after 5pm, and anytime on weekends). Because we do not own the exterior of our building, there are no designated parking spaces for people with limited mobility. You can be dropped off just at our front door if you arrive with someone else.  If not, let us know at 919.834.4001 and we’ll plan to meet you in the parking lot and escort you to your seat.  Please call us or arrive 30 minutes prior to curtain so we can be sure to get you in.

Lobby and Seating:

The lobby area can get crowded, so we recommend arriving 30 minutes in advance of the performance. Restrooms do have accessible stalls, but heavy front doors. Our ushers are available to assist opening doors. To reserve a wheelchair space or front row / aisle seating, give us a call at (919) 834-4001 or email info@burningcoal.org. You can also include it in the comments during online check out of tickets.  You may also be seated first before we open the house.

Signing up for a Tactile Tour:

Tactile tours are available 30 minutes prior to performance of any production, upon 48 hours advanced notice. They include entering the performance space when possible and touching key set, prop, and costume pieces used in the performance. To request a tactile tour, please email info@burningcoal.org or give us a call at (919) 834-4001.

Burning Coal’s performances frequently include bright lights and loud sounds, but not always. Burning Coal rarely uses strobes, but please double-check if this is a concern. To learn more about the sensory environment of a specific show, give us a call at (919) 834-4001 or email info@burningcoal.org. These design choices are typically determined by 6 weeks before the performance. Upon request we can provide the script in advance with bright light and loud noise cues.

If you are interested in arranging a sensory-friendly performance, please let us know with 2 weeks advanced notice.
