SUMMER THEATRE CONSERVATORY

SUMMER THEATRE CONSERVATORY

Education:

Summer Theatre Conservatory, Jr & Sr.

STC Sr. Camp Dates: July 12-30, M-F, 10 am-4 pm
Performance: July 30th and 31st, 7 pm

STC Jr will return in Summer 2022

Each year Burning Coal hosts an intensive conservatory for high school students.  Running weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm, the camp is comprised of morning classes with visiting instructors from across the state’s myriad professional theatres and educational institutions and afternoon rehearsals for a classic play (this year, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night).  In 2021, we will partner with the NYC-based Time Flies Aerial and Clowning Theatre to train the students in some not-very-down-to-earth theatre techniques!  Fee:  $425, with $100 due upon application and the remainder due by the first day of class.  Partial scholarships available upon request.

Each year Burning Coal hosts an intensive conservatory for middle school students.  Running weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm, the camp is comprised of morning classes and afternoon rehearsals for a short fun and whimsical play that the students create themselves and present to the public on the evening of the final date of the camp.  Fee:  $245, with $100 due upon application and the remainder due by the first day of class. Partial scholarships available upon request.

Burning Coal hopes to be able to do a live summer conservatory in 2021 for area middle school students from 6th through 8th grades.  Each year, the conservatory spends two weeks learning clowning, movement, voice production, theatre games and improvisation.  At the end of the two week period they present a work that they have created themselves using those newly learned skills.  All social distancing requirements will be strictly adhered to and a limited number of students will be accepted into the conservatory.
