This year we have two in-school tour options:

SHAKESCENES

For 4th-12th Grade, Shakescenes is series of classes, a performance, or both. Shakescenes introduces the works of William Shakespeare, emphasizing through games, exercises, and performances the universality of Shakespeare and how these stories are relevant today.

Introducing students to Shakespeare at an early age helps debunk many preconceived myths that the Bard is boring, musty and hard to understand. The interactive, fun nature of Shakescenes clears roadblocks in their future education by making students enthusiastic and curious about Shakespeare.

This tour is presented virtually year-long or in-person in March, 2023.

POETRY IN MOTION

SUMMER THEATRE CONSERVATORY (STC)

STC at Burning Coal Theatre is designed for the student who is passionate about studying and performing theatre and takes place every summer. STC 2023 application is now available for students ages 12-19.

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSIONS

Educational Excursions are customized group trips to various theatre capitals around the world led by Burning Coal Staff.

Let Burning Coal plan a budget friendly educational excursion for your group. Suggested locations range from New York’s Broadway, London’s West End, or Virginia’s American Shakespeare Center! We customize the tour itinerary to your curriculum and state educational standards to meet the unique needs of your group.

STUDENT MATINEES & GROUPS

Arrange a matinee performance field trip to a Burning Coal Theatre production! Our theatre holds 130 audience members, great for a couple classes to band together for a half-day field trip (minimum of 75 students needed to add a student matinee). You can also take advantage of our $15 per ticket group rate. The plays range from reinvigorated classics to new works, and delve into important topics like climate change, civcs, and human rights.
