TEATRO utilizes improvisation, role play, theatre games, monologues, dialogues and bilingual scripts (commercial and student generated) to enhance academic skills, honor cultural diversity and foster achievement.

TEATRO is aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and may be adapted for various grade levels and residencies of varied duration. Instructor will work with administrators and teachers to tailor a program specific to the needs of your ESL population.

TEATRO is designed and taught by Jan D. Morgan. A multi-lingual teacher, writer and drama practitioner, Jan began studying Spanish while in elementary school and, as a teen-ager, lived in South America as an exchange student. She continued foreign language studies at Wake Forest University (Spanish, French, Italian), where she was also active in university theatre and study abroad programs. Following receipt of her B.A., Jan auditioned for and was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she studied rehearsal techniques, acting styles, voice and articulation, movement, singing, and ensemble work. Her first professional acting work was with the College of Santa Fe Mobile Theatre, a bilingual touring company which presented plays in Spanish and English, throughout New Mexico and Mexico. In addition to her foreign language and theatre credentials, Jan also holds an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University, in Providence, RI. Over the past 25 years, Jan has taught students, ages pre-school through college; in the Triangle theatre community, her long-time home, she is a highly regarded actor (and loyal audience member!)

Jan is a member of Burning Coal Theatre Company, whose Education Program sponsors TEATRO.
